Lucius is trying to bring order and law to his people whilst also worrying that Jess isn’t strong enough to lead. When Lucius’s uncle is found murdered, he is blamed for his death and locked up without any blood which he needs to survive. Jess, her best friend Mindy?? Things I didn’t like There’s a lot: All Lucius’s family are evil, underhand and cruel. It seemed it was written that way so Jess and co are percieved as more competant, worthy and likable.. I found it really hard to believe that the 4 main characters were the only ‘normal’ people in the book. I would have expected her to learn the basics such as the names of food, greetings and so forth. So Jess just starves herself when Lucius isn’t there to order food her because it’s easier just to not eat than trying to communicate with the cook..
The young male vampire is a predator by nature. Some boys may look at you not only as a romantic interest, but as prey. It was a dreary early morning right after Labor Day, and I was waiting for the school bus, just minding my own business, standing at the end of the dirt lane that connected my family’s farmhouse to the main road into town. I was thinking about how many times I’d probably waited for that bus over the course of a dozen years, killing time like any mathlete would, by doing calculations in my head, when I noticed him.
And suddenly that familiar stretch of blacktop seemed awfully desolate.
Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side doesn’t attract me all that much – the cover is very pretty, but I’m not sure I can take another vampire teen novel. On the other hand, the plot description for Jekel Loves Hyde is *very* intriguing.
High school senior Jessica Packwood is a down-to-earth mathlete with a murky future. What she definitely doesn’t see coming is foreign exchange student–and vampire– Lucius Vladescu showing up at her door. According to Lucius, Jessica is actually vampire royalty, and they’ve been betrothe to one another since infancy. That’s just what a girl wants to hear.
And, after all, Lucius may be arrogant, but he’s easy to look at. Unfortunately, Jessica’s not the only girl in school who’s noticed. If she can hold off the evil cheerleaders long enough, she might just find a future with Lucius–and save his sould from eternal damnation. Author Beth Fantaskey injects a little humor into the vampire romance genre with this critically acclaimed debut, while narrators Katherine Kellgren and Jeff Woodman capture Jessica and Lucius’ colorful personalities.
Poor Jessica has enough issues with being odd chickie out what with being a ‘mathlete’, has vegans for parents and is an adopted child with a foggy foreign past. I enjoyed watching the progression of the cautious and irritated Jessica dealing with the arrogant and pushy Lucius as he ‘courted’ Jessica. And then the tables started turning as Jessica realized what she was becoming and how she felt about Lucius and Lucius started courting other girls and enjoying his Americanized life.
The dry humor in the beginning segueing to life as it can be with the issues that plague normal let alone vampire teens was entrancing to watch. Four chocolate vampire yumminess

The undead can really screw up your senior year. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: I have to say I was never much for the paranormal in books but lately I have been enjoying them more and more and this book was no exception. I enjoyed it far more than I expected, but it definitely had its faults.
Jessica and Lucius are great characters with a lot of personality. They are funny and emotional and endearing. But the background characters don’t have the same depth, they are very one dimensional. I really liked the story, it was a fun romance that had a darker ending but the two parts of the story didn’t mix well in spots. The first half is funny and the second half is dark instead of the two blending throughout. The ending also felt a little rushed.
The whole story had built to that point and I was waiting and waiting for it and then it just ended. It ended the way I wanted it to but somehow I was still a little let down at the end. I know this review makes it sound like I didn’t like it but I really did enjoy this book and I think because I loved certain parts so much, the parts I didn’t like were an even bigger let down.

In addition, I just did not care for Lucius at first. There was a part of me that was just really annoyed by him. To be honest, I am not completely sure if this was just my reaction to him, or the reaction that Fantaskey wanted her readers to have.

Jessica Rules the Dark Side is another matter though. Here we deal wit After reading the first in this series, Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, I enthusiastically rated it /5.
The sardonic, haughty and hilarious vampire, Lucius Vladescu really makes this book stand-out. Because of their noble bloodlines and a tremendous financial inheritance, Lucius and Jessica have been promised in marriage unbeknownst to Jessica since birth. Since Jessica’s been raised as an all-American girl, naturally she finds the idea of an arranged marriage very distasteful.
To try and change her mind, Lucius registers as an exchange student at her school and takes up residence in her parent’s barn. As the story unfolds we begin to see another side of Lucius. Frequently beaten by his harsh uncle during his Dickensian childhood, he begins to relax a bit and enjoy what he sees as a decadent suburban lifestyle.

Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side is another one of those books that I had wanted to read for a really long time, but never got to it until now. I love vampires, but I’m kind of the fence about this one. I did enjoy it, but the vampires themselves are a bit disappointing and the ending was rushed and jumpy.

These were my chapter mates and their support gave me a huge boast. Over the last couple of months however, I have gathered about five more followers- all of which have been complete strangers who thought I was worth following.

They’re short books, like most of these, but I really did enjoy them. It’s like a vampire tale, but about a more independent girl, who’s a junkie and a semi-alcoholic, but gets past it with her love. Okay, first off, they’re childrens books BUT they’re really good.
